Soccer Birthday Party Theme

Invitations
Let guests know they'll have a ball at your party by sending invitations featuring these soccer-related images: soccer balls, soccer cleats, team sweater, flags, goals, and two figures playing soccer.

Decorations
Cover the walls with posters of international soccer teams. Place black-and-white streamers around the room, and hang little plastic soccer balls from them. Cover half the tables in the room with white tablecloths, and the other half with black tablecloths. Place a soccer ball on the center of each table, and surround it with plenty of confetti.

Activities
Divide your group into two teams. Since this game is just for fun, it doesn't really matter how many people are on the team. Just set up two goals at either end of the yard, give guests the soccer ball, and let them go. After the game is over, keep things moving by lining up guests in front of the goals and having them practice hitting the ball into the goal with their head, kicking the ball in, and showing off their fanciest or silliest maneuver. Have a contest to see who can keep the ball in the air the longest using their head, knees, and feet.

Snacks
Kick off the eating with lots of dark-and-light-colored snacks to mimic the colors found on a soccer ball: hamburgers with white American cheese, black-and-white cookies, chocolate and vanilla ice cream, and dark and white chocolate truffles.

Cake
It's easy to turn a round cake into one that looks like a soccer ball, with just a bit of decorative icing skill.

Goody Bags
Look for any and all soccer-themed favors at your local party store to fill partygoers' goody bags. You're likely to find soccer-ball-adorned pencils, soccer-ball-looking erasers, soccer stickers and rubber stamps, and even soccer notepads. If you can't find enough favors that are specifically soccer-related, check for items featuring various sports ball designs.

Thank-you's
Match your thank-you notes to your invitation, or choose a complementary design. Teach your child good manners by having him or her sign each note. Do mention what the gift was that you're thanking the person for -- and how much your child enjoyed it! Then seal the envelope with a sticker of a soccer ball to remind guests of their fun-filled day.
