Ballet Birthday Party Theme

Invitations
Think pink. Find pink construction paper or poster board and cutout to meet your specification. Make sure you have selected pink envelopes ahead of time because this is where they're going to fit. With a hole puncher, punch two holes in the top two corners. Get some pink ribbon and tie it through the holes and curl the ends. Use pink and silver gel pens to write party information. You can also add stickers or other ballet related paper cutouts such as ballet slippers.

Decorations
Pink and white is the color scheme. Throw in some light blue to add a little accent. Start with pink and white balloons everywhere. Select a white tablecover with pink tableware. Scatter pink and light blue confetti throughout. Also use pink, white and light blue crepe streamers. Twist to create decorative garland and string it around the party room to taste. Consider purchasing a ballerina table centerpiece or figure cutouts from local party stores. Playing the "Nutcraker Walts" and other ballet music softly in the background is a nice touch.

Activities
What's a ballet party without a little ballet? Get ready to learn a few moves or find a friend who can help out. If your out of luck, find a local instructor to come to your party to lead the girls through a few moves. Demonstrates twists, turns, leaps etc and see if they can follow. Finally, you can use these dance steps in a game of "Ballet Simon Says".

Create a bead-necklace making activity table. Purchase pinks, white and light blue beads and have the party guest string them together. Also include ballet charms and assorted shapes to let them get creative. Have an adult stationed at a makeup table to get the girls ready for the "big show". Have lots of makeup and kid safe lipstick on hand. Also tie the girls hairs into tight little buns, just like ballerina. Have plenty of glittery hair clips on hand. The more ornate the better.

You can also have a wardrobe department. Fill a chest with inexpensive tutus, feather boas and glittery star accessories. To save money, you can go to town on one or two costumes and have the girls try them on at different times throughout the party. Have a Polaroid camera on hand to snap pictures and place on display.

Finally, stage a game of "Ballet Relay". Purchase two pairs of the appropriate sized ballet slippers. Divide the girls into two teams and have them tippy-toe to another corner of the room, spin and courtesy, then leap back, exchanging shoes with the next child. Assign two adults to each team to remove and tie on the slippers.

Snacks
Think light. Finger foods are a great choice. Make little bite sized sandwiches, hot-dogs, cheese cubes served with tooth picks. Serve on trays or have a person move around the party with a tray offering finger food as the girls have fun. Pink lemonade is the preferred beverage of choice for all ballet occasions.

Goody Bags
Give each guest a pink gift bag. Fill the bag with pink tissue paper and ballerina goodies: Pink bubble gum, stick on earrings, pink Power Beads, or another type of pink bracelet, candy necklace, pink nail polish, pink tights, and ballet related stickers.

Thank-you's
Match your thank-you notes to your invitation, or choose a complementary design. To tie in with the party's theme, have your child sign his or her name to each note with a marker or paint and paintbrush. Remember to mention what the gift was that you're thanking the person for -- and how much your child appreciated it!
