Now you can remove any chunks of ice out of the can. (Please mom or dad, you do this since the can has sharp edges on the inside). Help your child screw in a hook on a 20" wooden dowel (sold in do-it-yourself home supply stores) then string thin wire through the hook and with the ends, through the two holes in the top of the can. Secure the wire with knots.

Take a votive candle and using a little of the melted wax from it, secure it to the bottom of the tin can lantern. Light the candle carefully, we recommend using the long handled lighters so as not to get burned, and see how beautiful the lantern is. Have you child make a couple of them and use them outside in the dusk and dark or even bring them to the beach to light for twilight!
