You'll need empty jam jars, small to medium size are the best, beads, florist wire and glass paint (which can always be found in Michael's Arts & Crafts Store or A.C. Moore), for these beautiful garden or inside porch decorations.
Before you start though, make sure that your jars will be at least big enough to fit a small tea light candle. Make sure that you cleaned the outside of the jars before painting with glass paint. Once the kids are done painting, let it dry and then decorate with gems or glitter, small beads. Or they can sprinkle glitter right over the wet paint and it will dry along with the paint.
Wrap a long length of thin wire around the rim of the jar and then thread colored beads right onto the extending wire before making it into a handle to loop onto the rim. Place a small tea light candle in each of the kid's glass lantern and when they take it home as their party favor, they can hang on a branch in a garden or right inside the house with a lit tea light candle, as long as their mom and dad approves of course! The lantern will be so pretty, they won't even need a little candle in it if that is a problem.
